17. Invitation to Collaboration Event with SYOG at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Learning Center
Hey everyone! On 17th July, 50 Sports Leaders were chosen to attend the signing ceremony between Khattar Wong law firm and SYOG committee at the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Centre (located futher down Tanglin Road at Kay Siang Road). Before the start of the ceremony, we took a look at the exhibits at the Youth Olympic Centre. Below are some pictures of the exhibits!
WanYing and Hiumun running with the torch!
A card game created by primary schoolers for YOG!
SLs checking out exhibits with amazement
and...shyness? Yvelyn must be camera shy. Ilyasa as always ; moving fast, scanning the exhibits with speed.
SLs reading the information(on the floor) with sheer amazement.
Daryl Law,Eugene,WanYing discussing about the contents on the board.
Most valuable take home for the trip - a symposium on Sports Law by ex-olympians like Mr C Kunalan and Mr Ang Peng Siong and Olympic sailor Koh Seng Leong. We learn many things about sports law from this symposium, including some experiences shared by them. On a side note, sports law is law applied to sports.Direct,I know. It tells us about how we as atheletes or coaches can protect our rights through law. With sports law, atheletes and coaches can protest against any unfair treatment towards themselves. With that, i end my post. Thanks for reading! See you guys next time!

There were a total of 45 countries taking part in this 1st ever Asia youth games held in Singapore. We were all so excited to see the athletes from the various countries. We thought that the parade by the athletes was the 'coolest' part of the show.

15. Saint Mary's College (our YOG partner school!)
The Saint Mary's College http://www.collegesaintmarys.com/
As you know, Queenstown Secondary School will be hosting 2 countries for the Youth Olympic Games next year. One of the schools that will be participating is The Saint Mary College in Mauritius. Students from that school will be coming down to our school for a short visit. I am here to tell you more about how the school came about and more details about them.
The Saint Mary's college is a college for boys in
Mauritius which is well respected for its standard of education.
Saint Mary's College currently has its headquarters in
Rose-Hill, and has opened an another college: Saint Mary's Bambous now called Saint Mary's west. The College was officially inaugurated on
20 April 1955 by Lady Scott, wife of the Governor, Sir Robert Scott. Two years later, after a thorough inspection, the Education Office gave full official recognition to St. Mary's College.
The mission of the college originates from the "Projet Educatif Catholique" of the Diocese of Port-Louis, with the specificity of a lasallian school founded by the Christian Brothers. Such a school works towards a global development (intellectual, physical and spiritual) of all the youth admitted with particular attention to those in difficulty within the framework of a healthy school community so that they become responsible citizens living universal human values.
The school also has a variety of co-curricular activities for the students such as astronomy club, environment club and also a solidartary club.
From this, I hope that Queenstown will be able to give them a warm welcome in the future. And know more about their school. If you have further questions, please feel free to ask.

On Tuesday, 29th July 09, some of the sports leaders went to visit the Asian Yout Village which is located at the Swiss Hotel. That is where all the athletes stay and eat throughout this Asian Youth Games. Some of uswere lucky enough to meet the Singapore Under 14 soccer team. The sports leader were being toured around the hotel.
During the tour, we got to know some of the facts that was being displayed. For example, the solar torch. The solar torch is generated by the solar panel. After knowing more about the solar torch, we moved on with the Flag Plaza. The flag plaza is where they place all the 45 countries that are taking part in the Asian Youth Games.

All of us noticed something different about Nepal's flag. It's the most unique of all the flags. Unlike the other country flags, Nepal's flag looks like two pieces of triangle joined together. If you want to know more about Nepal's flag, you can click on the link: Nepal's Flag
Our favourite part of the visit was the cultural village. All the cultural booths there are set up by students from various secondary schools and junior colleges. There were booths from countries like India, Jordan, Singapore, Iraq, Bangladesh and more. There were games, food activities and prizes to be won at each booth. For that morning, we all collected lots of freebies, played many games and tried out many different types of food. It was FUN!

We were glad that we had the opportunity to visit the Asian Youth Village. Here are some of the interesting things the sports leaders have learnt during the tour: . National flags of the 45 participating countries in the AYG
. the common language for Bangladesh (Bangla)
. the torch is generated by a solar panel
. most people in Iraq likes to share their meal with others
. the countries participating
. "passion comes from Iran" (a quote)
. the different culture
. the different flags
. archery is hard
. the national sport of Bhutan is archery
We really enjoyed this tour and all of us are glad we're hosting Mauritius and Costa Rica next year for the Youth Game in 2010.
Evermore looking forward to the Youth Olympic Games.
