14. Visit to the AYG village at Swissotel, The Stamford

<-- A picture taken with Team Singapore!

On Tuesday, 29th July 09, some of the sports leaders went to visit the Asian Yout Village which is located at the Swiss Hotel. That is where all the athletes stay and eat throughout this Asian Youth Games. Some of uswere lucky enough to meet the Singapore Under 14 soccer team. The sports leader were being toured around the hotel.

During the tour, we got to know some of the facts that was being displayed. For example, the solar torch. The solar torch is generated by the solar panel. After knowing more about the solar torch, we moved on with the Flag Plaza. The flag plaza is where they place all the 45 countries that are taking part in the Asian Youth Games.

All of us noticed something different about Nepal's flag. It's the most unique of all the flags. Unlike the other country flags, Nepal's flag looks like two pieces of triangle joined together. If you want to know more about Nepal's flag, you can click on the link: Nepal's Flag

Our favourite part of the visit was the cultural village. All the cultural booths there are set up by students from various secondary schools and junior colleges. There were booths from countries like India, Jordan, Singapore, Iraq, Bangladesh and more. There were games, food activities and prizes to be won at each booth. For that morning, we all collected lots of freebies, played many games and tried out many different types of food. It was FUN!

We were glad that we had the opportunity to visit the Asian Youth Village. Here are some of the interesting things the sports leaders have learnt during the tour:
. National flags of the 45 participating countries in the AYG
. the common language for Bangladesh (Bangla)
. the torch is generated by a solar panel
. most people in Iraq likes to share their meal with others
. the countries participating
. "passion comes from Iran" (a quote)
. the different culture
. the different flags
. archery is hard
. the national sport of Bhutan is archery
We really enjoyed this tour and all of us are glad we're hosting Mauritius and Costa Rica next year for the Youth Game in 2010.

Evermore looking forward to the Youth Olympic Games.
